Semester Reflection
One skill that I have obtained this year is using spread sheets effectively. Spread sheet are extremely useful for analyzing large amounts of data as well creating formulas that make fast calculations when certain values are entered.
The first assignment that related we to spread sheets was the spread sheet workshop. This mini project helped me to create more complicated formulas, such as the one you can see below that calculates compounding interest.
The spread sheet workshop also helped me to organize a spread sheet effectively. I later applied these organizational skills to my spread sheet project as you can see below.
When we had to create our final spreadsheet project I had most of the tools that I needed to create a high quality functional spread sheet.
Above there is an example of a formula that I created for my speed sheet project that calculates income tax given a persons amount of annual income. This equation in particular was very difficult because it had so many parts. After a day or two of tinkering there still was no success. So we asked Dan about it and he eventaly figured it out. The Spread Sheet project helped me to understand the basic how a spread sheet operates as well as a couple of new ways to use a spread sheet.
