Calavera Project
1) Why are Calaveras Literarias traditional at Dia de Los Muertos?
Calaveras are decorative representations of a human skull often accompanied by a humorous story or poem. They are typically used during the day of the dead celebration where death is mocked in a joking manner so that the dead feel welcome when they "visit" on the night of November first. The specific style of art was popularized by Jose Guadalupe Posada in the early 1900s and was quickly adopted by the Mexican lower caste because of it's mockery of the rich and politicians.
2) What was your calavera about and do you think you were successful.
I do not think my final product turned out extraordinary, but I was happy with the amount of effort that I put into the writing. It takes me a very long time to develop sentences in spanish so I really had to work for the little that I did have.
